Update

Hello Falcons!!

Happy Friday.  We have finished our 6th week of summer and our 1st week of online registration!!  We can all celebrate the rain, which has brought the chore of lawn mowing back along with food for our plants/crops/food!  Here are FIVE things to know this week.

  1.  With online registration in full swing please know that there are two links.  THE LINK FOR EXISTING FAMILIES IS HERE.  Remember, even if you haven't been in Infinite Campus as a current Falcon you still need to go through the existing family portal.  THE LINK FOR NEW FALCON FAMILIES IS HERE.  If you attended Fontana in the past please DO NOT register in the NEW FAMILY LINK.  Please contact Cathy Long (clong@fontana.k12.wi.us) or  Susan Ziganto at (sziganto@fontana.k12.wi.us) with any questions or support.
  2. At our special school board meeting on July 14th our school board and administrative team voted on "mask optional" practices/protocols for those vaccinated and "masks strongly recommended" for those not vaccinated as of July 15th, 2021.  Our school board and administrative team had a great discussion about our continued focus on safety, the need for more data and information moving forward, and our plans to provide details/information as we all know this is a fluid situation that requires vigilance, teamwork, and collaboration.  While we all know these decisions are very difficult we greatly appreciate the patience, understanding, and feedback to ensure safety and education remain the top priorities.
  3. Each school year Fontana partners with local small businesses including Green Grocer, to provide weekend lunch/food for our Falcon community.  Any/all families are welcome to participate for next year.  If interested, please contact Nikki Christensen at nchristensen@fontana.k12.wi.us or call 262-275-6881 ext. 219.
  4. Another registration announcement.  We are excited to offer online payments through our Infinite Campus student/family portal.  This will allow you to pay any outstanding fees from last school year, current year school fees, pay for the classroom milk break, and yearbook if interested.  Please contact our office with any questions.
  5. We are thrilled to be providing extra-curricular activities this fall for our middle school Falcons.  Our practices for Volleyball, Flag Football, and Cross Country will be starting the first week of school.
  6. (BONUS UPDATE)--Our school year will have 2 minor adjustments we wanted to share to provide academic and assessment improvements in 2021/2022.  1st--Our school day will start 5 minutes earlier (8:15am) to provide more time in our specials and core academic classes.  While that doesn't seem like a big change, that small adjustment provides our teachers with more time teaching in the classroom.  2nd--Our 4k-5th grade teachers will be grading in a Trimester model (formal grading 3 times/year) and our 6-8 grade will remain on quarters/semesters (four times/year) as they transition to high school.   The dates will look as follows:  The quarters (9 weeks) are: End Q1 Nov 5, 2021 End Q2 Jan 21, 2022 End Q3 Apr 1, 2022 End Q4 Jun 3, 2022.  Trimesters will be (12 weeks): End Tri 1 Dec 3, 2021 End Tri 2 Mar 4, 2022 End Tri 3 Jun 3, 2022.  This will provide the elementary more time between conferences and grading periods, which allows for greater support/extension before formal reporting is completed.

Your Falcon 5 became 6 this week as we continue to work this summer on providing the best services for every Falcon family.  Thank you for your understanding, grace, and collaboration.  We are a Falcon Family and our strength is our partnership!  Have a great week(end).
