School update

Hello Falcons!!

Happy Winter Break!!  Our 15th week was filled with learning, joy, family, and fun.  There is no school like Fontana when it comes to families and community support and that is not more evident than during the holiday season.  So much support, care, and time is spent with our students and it is no wonder there is joy heard throughout the school.  Here are FIVE things to know this week:

  1. Our winter break is from December 22nd through January 2nd.  Our first day back with students is Wednesday, January 3rd.  Reminder, our daycare (3k and younger) is open during the winter break December 27, 28 and 29th.  The daycare is closed on December 25 and 26 and January 1 and 2nd.  Happy Holidays!
  2. Our fourth grade students had a great time learning about electricity, current, and switches.  Our science curriculum provides great opportunities for theory and hands on experimentation.  Great job 4th grade!
  3. Back by popular demand, Mr. Cripe and Cameron Cripe will be doing an afterschool Dungeons and Dragons  Club  in the new year.  We will be working out details when we return from winter break, but if interested, please email Mr. Torrez (storrez@fontana.k12.wi.us) and we will get a group together again this year for some DnD magic!   This group typically met twice a month, after school, from 3:30p to 4:30p.
  4. We have added another resource when notifying the school of your child(rens) absence.  We still have our attendance phone line (262-275-6881 ext. 400)) but we have now added an online attendance form that is quick and easy to complete.  You can access this by going to our Falcon App (found in the app store under Fontana J8 School District) or by going to our website and clicking on the  "Report and Absence" tab.
  5. Our 3K classes just finished up their Clothing Unit, which focused on different careers, uniforms and clothing.  Thank you to all of our parents and community members that came in to share about their careers and uniforms.  We had pilots, flight attendants, DNR Wardens and many others.  Our early childhood programs use a research and evidenced based curriculum (Creative Curriculum), which provides so much fun with learning.
  6. BONUS--This past fall, Fontana art students participated in an art contest sponsored by Society's Assets, a non-profit organization serving people with disabilities. The contest was open to students from Walworth, Racine, Kenosha, Rock, and Jefferson counties. Last year, they received over 600 student art entries. 5th grade Fontana art student Carson McDonald received 2nd place in his age category, winning a certificate, ribbon, calendar, and $20 Target gift card. Congratulations Carson! And thank you all all students who participated. (art work below)

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and send so much gratitude to our school community this holiday season.  Be well and see you in 2024!!
