Hello Falcons!!
Week 10 was a great week capped off by our traditional/annual Veteran's Day Assembly that is facilitated by our 4th grade students/staff and supported by our 5th grade students/staff. We were grateful to restart our tradition of inviting Veteran's in for a lunch and gathering before the assembly this year! Here are FIVE things to know this week:
- Our "Principal for the Day" winner Max Ketterhagen attended a Geneva Lake West Rotary lunch, learned about Service Above Self, and was sworn in to a youth Sheriff position by Walworth County Sheriff Dave Gerber. Our community support, connections, and teamwork make a difference everyday. Thank you to our wonderful community partners.
- The Fontana health office is led by Julie Lohse, district nurse, and Mallory Booth, health aide to support all of our health needs from programming, procedures, to daily care for any/all bumps, bruises, and everything in between. We are happy to report that our school is 100% in compliance with all immunization reporting for the 23/24 school year. This is a great accomplishment and thank you families for working with our school to ensure we are all safe, healthy, and working together!!
- One of our district strategic goals states "Fontana Joint 8 School District will annually report and maintain a balanced budget while supporting student excellence." At our October school board meeting we had our annual budget approved and balanced while providing the highest quality education. Thank you to our community, school board, and staff for ensuring fiscal responsibility that ensures high levels of learning for all students.
- This school year Fontana is using I-Ready for benchmark testing (progress checks 3-4 times/year) in both reading and math along with the resources for "teacher toolbox", which provides resources for individualized instruction. Each student gets "my path" after each diagnostic benchmark test that syncs with each students strengths and areas of growth to target growth. We did an additional benchmark this past week in the middle school and we couldn't be more proud that some students have already reached their typical growth goal and they are now headed toward their "stretch" goal for the school year. Our district strategic goal for instruction/learning states "By June of 2024 all students (100% of 5K-8) will meet or exceed their projected typical growth goal in math and reading, 25% of the students (5K-8) will meet or exceed their projected stretch growth goal in math and reading, as measured by iReady benchmark Spring '23-'24".
- Our falcon students have so many opportunities to excel outside the classroom each week. This week alone we had Film Club, Drone Club, boys basketball, FLL Robotics, and Talent Show for students 3-8th grade. This is in addition to a full-service daycare that is open 7a to 5p daily for our community. Way to go Falcons!
Have a great weekend Falcons and see you Monday!! This will be our last full week of school before the Thanksgiving Holiday break. We will not have school November 22, 23, 24 and will return to school on November 27th for the holiday break.
