School update

Hello Falcons!!

We are now into double digit weeks of summer break (week 10 in the books).  Being in the Geneva Lakes area it's easy to tell when summer is getting shorter.  There are events and festivals each weekend, many that are in line with the corn harvest!  If you were able to attend the Lobster/Steak Boil put on by the Lion's Club or the Rotary Corn and Brat fest in recent weeks you know exactly what summer tastes like in Walworth County!!  Here are FIVE things to know this week:

  1. We completed our first Summer Boot Camp on Friday.  Over 20 students attended our summer boot camp from 5k through 7th grade and worked on math, reading, and fun!  We are excited to grow and expand our summer offerings next year.  If you have summer school ideas, wishes, or thoughts please share via email at storrez@fontana.k12.wi.us.
  2. With mid-August in our sights, it's not too early to start planning for our open house and welcome back activities at Fontana.  For all 4k students and any brand new 5k students we offer an  introduction and informational night on August 29th from 5-6pm.  Students will be able to explore their classroom, meet the staff, and even take a ride on the school bus with our Dousman Transportation partners.  Please call our office with any questions.
  3. Our open house for all 5k through 8th grade students will be August 31st from 5-6:30p.  Students will find their rooms, meet our staff, practice opening lockers, and many drop off school supplies that night. LINK to our school supply lists HERE.
  4. Fontana is fortunate to have a full-time school social worker that helps students, families, staff, and our entire community on a daily basis.  Fontana offers "Wellness Wednesdays", guest speakers, partnership/collaboration with wellness programs in our community, and our annual Falcon's Walk for Wellness among many other activities.  Ms. Christensen, our social worker, also provides a newsletter with many great resources linked HERE.
  5. Pictured is our tour that took place last weekend as part of the 50 year Big Foot High School reunion.  Being able to connect with former Falcons and hearing the wonderful stories about our school was a privilege.  Everyone had so many fond memories and stories that took place right here at our school.  Once a Falcon, Always a Falcon!!
  6. Bonus--We would like to wish Mrs. Bagby well on her new journey.  We will certainly miss her passion for band and we are on the search for another band teacher this very minute.  Please send any band information to Steve Torrez at storrez@fontana.k12.wi.us as we look to secure our new band position as soon as possible!
  7. Bonus/Bonus--As an update on our staff for this coming school year we have many familiar faces in some different roles this coming year.  Our looping 4k/5k will see Mrs. Selvey back in 4k and Ms. Fuentes in 5k.  Ms. Torres has moved from 4/5 grade to 2nd grade after Mrs. Douglas retired this spring.  Mrs. McGoey will be our Tiered Learning Teacher (support/extension in 3-5th grade) after over 32 years in the classroom and Ms. Castaldo, who was our Tiered Learning Teacher, will take over 3rd grade.  Mr. Gump, who was our permanent/full-time substitute last year, will move into middle school English this year.  Lastly, with a larger than expected group joining 4th and 5th grade this year we will be adding Mr. Hoey to the team that was already assigned to Mrs. Sammons and our newest teacher Mrs. Sahs.  What sounds like a lot of moving parts is really the addition of one new teacher to our school and many others getting established in roles they will have for many years to come.

We are officially heading into "mid-August" so enjoy, relax, and please reach out with any questions!
